Humming, jammed, leaking, or dead? We diagnose what's actually wrong and tell you honestly when a replacement beats a repair.

Usually not — a hum means the motor works but the impeller is jammed. Freeing the jam and pressing reset often fixes it completely ($95–$150 if you'd rather we handle it). It's only dead if it still hums after unjamming and resetting.
Jams, resets, and connection leaks are cheap fixes. A dead motor, body leak, or burning smell means replacement, since a new unit ($180–$450 installed) costs less than repairing a failed motor. We tell you honestly which applies.
Texas hard water corrodes internal components and makes grease solidify and build up faster. Disposals in hard-water regions like San Antonio or Lubbock often reach end-of-life in 7–10 years versus 10–12 elsewhere.
Depends where. Leaks at the sink flange, dishwasher hose, or drain connection are cheap repairs. A leak from the body or bottom of the unit means internal corrosion — that requires replacement.
